The second seat is the whole point
On a duo quad the passenger sits behind the driver, holds on, and sees a helmet. In a buggy they sit beside the driver in their own bucket seat, belted by a four-point harness, with a footwell and a grab bar and an uninterrupted view of the plateau coming at them.
That changes the ride for both of you. The driver isn't carrying anyone's balance, so they can commit to the corners. The passenger isn't concentrating on staying on, so they spend an hour actually looking at Agafay. It is the one machine we run where both people come back describing the same ride.
It's also the machine for the rough sections. The suspension takes the dry riverbeds at a speed that would have a quad picking its way through, and the cage means dust and stones stay off your face.

Buggy Duo questions
Does the passenger need a licence?
No. Only the person driving needs a valid car licence and to be 18 or over. The passenger needs nothing, and can be as young as 8.
Can we take turns driving?
Yes, if you both hold a car licence — bring both. Swap at the tea stop on the 2-hour and half-day rides. On the one-hour ride there's no stop, so agree beforehand who drives.
Is it safe for a child of eight?
The buggy has a roll cage, four-point harnesses and a helmet for each seat, which is why the minimum age here is 8 rather than the quad's 6 — the harness has to fit. If your child is small for their age, tell us and we'll check the fit before you pay.
How is it different from sitting behind someone on a quad?
You're beside the driver instead of behind them, belted into your own seat with your own footwell. You can see forward, you can talk normally, and you're not holding on. It's the difference between being a passenger in a car and on a motorbike.
Will we be able to hear each other?
Over the engine and the wind, at speed — barely. At walking pace and at the stops, easily. Most couples work out hand signals within ten minutes without discussing it.
