MarrakeshQuads — quad and buggy rides in the Agafay desert
Riding across the Agafay desert near Marrakech at the end of the day

Thirty minutes from Marrakech, the road ends.

Agafay is stone desert — hard packed tracks, dry riverbeds, long open plateaus with the Atlas on the horizon. It is built for machines. Ours leave every day at 09:00, 14:00 and an hour before sunset.

Four ways to cross Agafay. Quads are lighter and easier for first-timers; buggies are faster, seat two side by side and take the rough sections better. Every price below is per machine, not per person.

The stone plateau of the Agafay desert with the Atlas mountains behind

Agafay is not the Sahara. That's the point.

No dunes here. Agafay is hamada — a bare, pale plateau of compacted stone and dust cut by dry riverbeds, sitting at around 700 metres with the High Atlas rising straight behind it. The ground holds grip, so the machines actually move, and the light at the end of the day turns the whole plateau the colour of clay.

We ride the tracks between the Lalla Takerkoust valley and the Berber hamlets on the ridge. Nobody follows a straight line for two hours: we stop, we look, we drink tea, we keep going.

How a ride runs

Same shape every time, whichever machine you take.

01

Pick-up

Air-conditioned transfer from your riad, hotel or the Agafay camps. Roughly 30 minutes to base.

02

Briefing

Helmets, goggles and a scarf against the dust. Fifteen minutes on the controls, then a practice loop before we leave.

03

The ride

Out onto the plateau with a guide in front and one behind. Riverbeds, ridges, Berber villages, one stop for mint tea.

04

Back, or stay

Transfer back to Marrakech — or stay on for a camel ride at golden hour and dinner under the camp lights.

Make an evening of it

Add either of these to any ride while you book. Prices are per person and get added to your total before you confirm.

What riders say

4.9 from 380 reviews across Google and TripAdvisor.

★★★★★

We had never driven a quad before and were nervous. The briefing was calm and thorough and after ten minutes we were fine. The sunset stop above the valley was the best hour of our trip.
Élodie R.France · Quad Duo, sunset

★★★★★

Booked the buggy for two hours plus dinner. Picked up from the riad on time, proper machines, guide let us open it up on the flat sections. Dinner at the camp afterwards was genuinely good, not tourist food.
Daniel K.United Kingdom · Buggy Duo, 2h

★★★★★

Organisé de bout en bout par WhatsApp en une heure. Quad impeccable, guide marocain qui connaît chaque piste, et le thé chez les bergers valait le détour.

Before you book

Do I need a driving licence?

No licence is needed for the quads. For the buggy you should hold a valid car licence if you want to drive. Everyone gets a briefing and a practice loop before leaving base.

Is hotel pick-up included?

Transfer from central Marrakech, the Palmeraie and the Agafay camps is included on every booking. Tell us your hotel or riad name in the booking form and we confirm the pick-up time by WhatsApp the evening before.

What should I wear?

Closed shoes, long trousers and sunglasses. It is dusty and it is colder than you expect after sunset, so bring a layer for the evening departures. We provide helmets, goggles and a scarf.

Can children come?

Children from 6 can ride as a passenger on a quad, from 8 in a buggy. To drive alone you must be 16 on a quad and 18 in a buggy.

What happens if the weather turns?

Rain in Agafay is rare but it makes the riverbeds unsafe. If we cancel a departure you choose another slot or get a full refund, no argument.

How do I pay?

Nothing is charged online. You reserve here, we confirm by email and WhatsApp, and you pay in cash (MAD or EUR) or by card at base on the day.
